Ally Owen is an inclusion evangelist, digital leader and founder of the award winning Social Enterprises Brixton Finishing School, Ad-Cademy and Visible Start. All of which aim to change, at scale, the blend of the industry’s future talent pipeline to a more inclusive and diverse mix.
With 25 years of tenure in the Media & Advertising industries; Ally amassed her early experience working with the likes of Guardian News and Media, Unruly, MailOnline, Yahoo!, Women’s glossies and John Brown (Waitrose & John Lewis). Ally’s mounting unease at seeing the same privileged faces and the minimal opportunities for those with diverse backgrounds and circumstances, to break into media careers, led her to be the catalyst for the change she needed to see. Teaming up with other highly skilled and change focused media professionals; Ally created courses designed to upskill participants in key aspects of marketing, creativity and digital, helping them build their network and increase their chances of winning a role through employability workshops including personal branding, accountability, interview tips and CV writing.
She then successfully acquired sponsors from some of the biggest players in the industry such as; McCann London, Brand Advance Agency, Clear Channel, PrettyGreen and Kinetic who, along with others, have committed to creating entry-level jobs especially for graduates of Brixton. Ad-Cademy sponsors include KFC, R/GA, Oliver Group and M&C Saatchi. Ally is an impressive and impassioned speaker whose action provoking talks cover:
